Today I thought I'd share another fat free raw vegan smoothie recipe with you  (this one includes cherries and pineapples) and go over some questions some of you may have on green smoothies. If you're looking for the recipe, you can scroll to the bottom of the post. What is a Green Smoothie? A green smoothie is basically just a raw fruit smoothie with some raw greens added to it for more nutrition. It can look green, red, purple or even brown coloured depending on what the ingredients are. Why Would I Want To Add Greens To My Smoothie? Most of…

80/10/10 Recipe: Raw Vegan Pineapple Mango Delight Smoothie

Relevance: 7%      Posted on: May 23, 2012

This delicious breakfast smoothie kind of reminds me of a Pina Colada but gets it's creaminess from bananas instead of coconut. I was going to throw some other fruit into it, but once I tasted it, it was too delicious to mess around with so I left it with just 3 simple ingredients and it's definitely one of my favourite smoothies. The best smoothies are made with fresh ripe produce, so I always make sure to select the best sweetest pineapples, (See my video on How To Select and Cut A Pineapple) and let my mangoes fully ripen on the…

80/10/10 Recipe: Raw Vegan Persimmon Fruit Pudding

Relevance: 7%      Posted on: October 7, 2011

We're coming into persimmon season soon, so I highly recommend trying them this year if you haven't yet. You can find persimmons at Asian markets or specialty ethnic grocery stores. Persimmons look rather like an orange-red tomato and are short and fat. When they are unripe, they will be rock hard and VERY starchy and need to be cut with a knife. Some people like the Thais enjoy eating fuyu persimmons raw in salads more like a vegetable, but personally I find they leave an awful starchy film on my tongue. So I prefer to only eat persimmons that very…

80/10/10 Recipe: Raw Winter Vitamin C Smoothie

Relevance: 6%      Posted on: September 28, 2011

Winter time can be a little harder to get a wide variety of fresh ripe fruit. So this is an easy staple that you can add to your breakfast regime. Just make sure you are using fresh squeezed orange juice (home-made is best) and ripe bananas (that are very speckled and sweet). An unripe banana or sour oranges can really ruin your smoothie, so make sure you use quality ingredients that taste good on their own first. If you find that you are feeling cold in the winter months, make sure you take your fruit OUT of the refrigerator before…

Soy-Free Vegan Tropical Acai Berry Bowl Recipe

Relevance: 6%      Posted on: June 9, 2013

Whipping up acai bowl recipes are pretty easy. I like to use whatever fresh and frozen fruits I had on hand. This one is similar to my Acai Banana Berry Bowl Recipe , but it's perfect for summer with fresh mango and berries. Acai bowls can be topped with your favorite fruits, but I know some of you have never had one before and are unsure how to make them at home. Acai is usually sold in a frozen puree for use in smoothies, acai bowls and frozen desserts. You can also buy acai juice, powder and supplements, but I stick with…

Antioxidant Omega-3 High Protein Vegan Granola Bars

Relevance: 6%      Posted on: November 11, 2012

The other day I was looking at granola bars at the grocery store and I was starting to get frustrated. Most granola bars are pretty unhealthy, they contain a lot of high fructose corn syrup, milk ingredients, oil, nuts and salt. When you're looking for a quick high energy snack for traveling, hiking or to have before your work out it's nice to eat something that's just as healthy as a home cooked meal. So I decided to make my own homemade no-bake vegan granola bars, and came up with this bar which is high in protein and contains lots…
